Praying Together in Slad

The Praying Together group began 2005, when the then bishop wanted every church in the Diocese to be prayed in every day in Lent. A few of us kept it up, and enjoyed it so much that we began meeting one day a week – with coffee together afterwards if we had time. Well, the coffee soon became an essential
part of it!

We meet in Slad church at 10 o’clock each Thursday morning for about 20 minutes of prayer and reflection. There is usually a sheet with prayers that everyone can join in with, a short Bible reading, perhaps another reading or quotation. And we have a short piece of reflective music, followed by silent
prayer. Then we finish with the Lord’s prayer and a blessing, and the two regular canine members look expectantly for their dog treat… This is followed by coffee, biscuits and conversation at one of the houses near the church (or garden if weather is good!).

When we got locked down in March 2020, I started emailing the prayers and readings, so that we could continue praying ‘together in isolation’. Then a friend started a Zoom meeting for it. Another friend now runs a Zoom meeting
for anyone who would like to join us in prayer at the same time, using the same prayers and readings. Do let me know if you would like to receive the weekly emails, which include the link to the Zoom meeting.

Communion during this time

In these unprecedented times, we are working hard to find imaginative solutions in a landscape that has been rapidly changing. Sometimes we get things right, and sometimes we miss the mark. I apologise that this has been the case regarding communion.

For those of you who have received wafers in a parcel, we would ask that you either consume them, or put them somewhere safe to bring back once we are able to be together again.

We are going to be sending out a new order of service for use during this time as either a simple service of the word or, on occasion, to help us to share an Agape meal together.
