Standish Consort is a chamber choir of around 20 singers, drawn from Oxford and Cambridge alumni in Gloucestershire and their friends.

This concert programme includes, in the first half, Gregorio Allegri’s stunning setting of Psalm 51, Miserere Mei Deus, Schutz ” Musikalische Exequiem 1, and Byrd’s “O Salutaris Hostia” paired with a new composition by Gemma Cartmell, setting the words “O Saving Sacrifice”

Following an interval where refreshments will be available by suggested donation, the choir will  perform Faure’s Requiem, remembering Hilary Peters, late of Worcester Lodge, Badminton, without whose love of music and young people, Standish Consort would not have been born. The choir will be accompanied on the organ by Edward Byrne, organ scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford and previously of Worcester Cathedral.

Mark Wilson, is the Musical Director of Standish Consort and Director of Music at Pembroke College Oxford . He is the founder and Musical Director of Ensemble La Notte, which specialises in 17th and 18th century music, performing on period instruments.

Ticket sales will fund our Autumn Concert with Ensemble La Notte. There will be a retiring collection for the Church of St Matthew, who have generously provided the venue for the concert. Standish Consort sings compline on 5th Sundays at St Matthew’s at 8.30pm, next date 30th April, all are welcome.

Communion during this time

In these unprecedented times, we are working hard to find imaginative solutions in a landscape that has been rapidly changing. Sometimes we get things right, and sometimes we miss the mark. I apologise that this has been the case regarding communion.

For those of you who have received wafers in a parcel, we would ask that you either consume them, or put them somewhere safe to bring back once we are able to be together again.

We are going to be sending out a new order of service for use during this time as either a simple service of the word or, on occasion, to help us to share an Agape meal together.
